Contura Energy volunteers at Abuse Alternatives, Inc. during United Way Week of Caring

Contura Energy took on the project of constructing both a parking area for shelter staff and building planter boxes for clients and their children to plant both vegetables and flowers. Teresa Anderson, Contura Energy Manager for Corporate Communications and PAC Administrator, lead the team of eleven volunteers. Through teamwork, some great re-engineering of the plans by Danny, and perseverance of waiting out an unexpected thunderstorm, the project came to completion around 5 pm to many smiling and tired faces.

Contura Energy went above and beyond the call by making a "Lowe's run" to purchase more materials for the re-engineered planter boxes. The boxes came out looking spectacular and extremely stout. They are filled with dirt and ready for clients and their children to begin planting. Staff at Abuse Alternatives hopes that this activity will give clients and their children an opportunity to de-stress, learn a skill, and just have fun. The parking area will give employees and volunteers a place to park other than on the street or in the limited parking area.

Thank you to Contura Energy for both providing materials and volunteering for this United Way Week of Caring Project. Their commitment to helping organizations who serve our community is exemplary and a great example to others.
